With Street Smarts VR, trainees train like they’re there in fully-immersive environments with HTC Vive Pro Wireless Headsets that provide a 540-degree field of view and weapons tracking. Instructors employ a Dell ‘Ready for VR’ Workstation to seamlessly manipulate scenario types, weapons, and environments; intervene at branches and choose to escalate or de-escalate subject behavior; and launch Review Mode to debrief on decision-making skills and strategic objectives with trainees.

Who does Street Smarts VR serve?

Virtual reality (VR) provides a three-dimensional simulated experience that, in the case of Street Smarts VR’s technology, can mimic real-world situations from an active shooter to the complex interactions between an officer and community-members.

Trainees experience realistic stress in a safe training environment, and learn to identify and use proper tactics, use of force, verbal commands, and de-escalation techniques.

The number of branched outcomes per training scenario is optimized at an average of nine to provide a diverse set of experiences for the trainee while remaining easy to execute and analyze for training officers. Instructors can intervene at critical branches, opting to have a subject comply with commands, pull a weapon, or attack.

How do scenario branches work?

Critical moments in Street Smarts VR training scenarios feature “branching” options. During these moments, branched options will appear in the corner of the instructor’s screen. For example, the instructor can choose to have the subject in a public disturbance scenario attack when an officer verbally engages them, or comply.

Instructors do not have to intervene by selecting a branched option. A timer also appears on the instructor’s screen, and if they allow the time to run out the software will intelligently select a branch and continue with the scenario.

What is Street Smarts VR’s Review Mode?

After any training scenario is complete, the instructor and trainee can pause and replay scenarios from multiple vantage points, allowing for analysis of the trainee’s decision-making, accuracy, and overall performance.

Can officers wear prescription glasses while using the VR headset?

Yes, most glasses fit Street Smarts VR’s HTC Vive Pro Wireless Headset. If needed, you can adjust the lens distance to accommodate larger frames, just ensure that no part of your glasses scratch the headset lenses.

How do I care for the VR headset?

To properly care for your HTC Vive Pro Wireless Headset:

• Keep the headset lenses away from sharp objects, including cable tips.
• When not in use, store the headset with the lenses pointed away from direct sunlight. Failure to do so may damage the headset display.
• When storing the headset, it is recommended to cover the lenses with the protective film or paper cover to help prevent accidental scratches.
